"Mental Health on the Radio" - Tuesday 11th November 2014 in Bristol

Recommended Posts

Hello All

Just a note to let everyone in the West Country know that the weekly "Wellbeing Slot" on the multi-ethnic community radio station B.C.F.M. in Central Bristol is next week being produced by service users of local charity Second Step with support from Self Injury Self Help Bristol. The hour long programme will deal with the change from Autumn to Winter, and how people cope with this time of year - vox pops, exclusive chilled out music, and contributions from people living with Seasonally Affective Disorder. The date and time is Tuesday 11th November between 3pm and 4pm. B.C.F.M. Radio is available on FM at 93.2 MHz (between BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4 on the FM dial) in most urban parts of the city. Internationally, it is available streaming free at www.bcfmradio.com.

With very best wishes

Thanks to great work from a group of staff and service users, the community radio programme on "Autumn and Winter" went very well. The show was put together by staff and service users of Second Step with additional guests from Self Injury Self Help Bristol, and dealt with hoe people manage their mental health through the winter months - the dark half of the year. Music was selected by DJ Danny, who we hope to facilitate getting his own music programme on community radio in the coming months. Chilled out and relaxed, it was like nothing else you could find on your radio at that time of the day. With vox pops from people in the street, plus discussions and interviews with people who suffer from anxiety and depressive illnesses at this time of year, plus tips on surviving the winter months. The programme should be available for podcast and listen again on the website www.bcfmradio.com.

December is coming, and lots more mental health issues to discuss. The Second Step Radio Group will be making programmes for the African-Caribbean and St Paul's based community station UJIMA Radio on:

  • Wednesday 3rd December between 12 and 2pm - a two hour special looking at issues around domestic violence and mental health implications
  • Wednesday 17th December between 1 and 2pm - with tips on surviving Christmas if you are leaving with mental health issues
  • Wednesday 7th January 2015 between 1 and 2pm - focus to be decided and advertised soon.

With very best wishes
