snowbear
I've found the best strategy is to tackle the fear/thoughts head on, not to settle for coping. Looking for ways to cope means you're thinking of yourself as having a passive role. 'Coping' means you've accepted OCD rules and dictates your life while you have to manage the best you can. Give up the idea you're at the mercy of OCD and replace it with a determination to win your life back rather than thinking in terms of 'coping'. Get into the mindset that you are taking charge and fighting the fear. Taking on that active role gives you the courage needed to face and overcome the OCD. Then it won't seem so hard to make Magicat's good advice work. 3 hours ago, Magicat said: Acknowledge thoughts are intrusive and a symptom of OCD. Don't force them away. Sit with the anxiety. Distraction techniques. Remember - you're in control, not the thoughts. You can't stop them coming into your head, but you can decide how to react and to just let them be without treating the thoughts as if they were reality. Take charge! Don't 'cope'. Link to comment
jimangie1973
That's great advise Snowbear. Coping means an attitude of submission, loss of control, and hopelessness. Facing it head on brings feelings of strength and confidence. The difference that this perception makes is huge. Link to comment

jimangie1973
Are you seeing a GP or a Psy doc? I would definitely get to a Psy doc if possible. There's a lot of med options to help reduce your anxiety so you can get to a stable place. Hope you feel better soon. Link to comment
