Sleep and anxiety related question

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else find that when they wake up, their anxiety is at it's highest, or at least very high? I'm not counting the anxiety experienced during the OCD cycle here.

I find that when I wake, even if I'm not obsessing about something my anxiety will naturally be higher. I was wondering if it's to do with the levels of cortisol (the body's stress hormone) being higher in the morning, or perhaps serotonin production being lower, though I get it after naps, and especially if I fall asleep at any point of the day unintentionally. I'm wondering if it's to do with mental disorientation and the fact that my mind doesn't like not being in control, so on waking I don't immediately feel in control.

It's a weird pattern I've noticed that on waking, I'll often have unnaturally high levels of anxiety, heart racing and almost panic even though there's nothing to be panicking about. Does anyone else find that they get this?
