Northern ireland treatment

Recommended Posts

Hi amewat,

We have a few members from Northern Ireland but perhaps none of them have been on the forum recently to see your post. :)

The BAPCP list covers NI therapists. http://www.cbtregisteruk.com/Default.aspx     Just put Northern Ireland in the search box, or your post code if you want a more local search.

All therapists on the list are CBT accredited, which means they know how to apply CBT, but that doesn't mean they necessarily have much personal experience in treating OCD. In lieu of a personal recommendation you have to do your homework and contact them individually to ask. A good therapist won't be offended by you asking about their qualifications and experience, and you can ask if they are NHS or private too.

I'll flag this question for our CEO, Ashley, as there used to be a support group in NI which was unfortunately disbanded (I think due to lack of funds.) Maybe he's still in contact with the lady who ran it, Laura Mac - see if one of them knows of any NI therapists with experience treating OCD.

Sorry just seen this.  Hopefully Wonderer offered some helpful advice.   Did you mean private? if so then the BABCP link that snowbear used is about the best I can think of.  I don't actually know anyone I am afraid.  I can ask Laura, and I can ask our medical advisors for recommendations if you need me to?

I am in the same boat as yourself amewat. It seems to be difficult to access treatment with therapists who specialise in OCD in Northern Ireland although I'm sure they do exist.  If you or anyone reading this gets in contact with any please let m know. Ty
