Jen_90
I’ve been attending therapy recently (not cbt) and I’ve came to the conclusion that I could be worrying obsessively/carrying out compulsions due to misplaced anxiety. I know the main thing I am sad about are previous actions I feel guilty over. I guess my concern is that OCD is a way of me avoiding the actual matter- that I’ve done bad things. I’m meant to be looking into cbt as my therapist suggested that may be better at this point but If I’m causing my ocd symptoms because I don’t want to face my own guilt then I’m not so sure it will help... I have never actually had an official ocd diagnosis, another reason to believe I’ve latched onto it as a way of avoiding the real problem. Has anyone experienced something similar in relation to the cause of their ocd? Link to comment
gingerbreadgirl
Hi Jen, I have very similar issues to this in that I feel genuine guilt about real things in the past, which OCD has run away with. It is still OCD, regardless. I read a great article about this type of "real event OCD" here (I hope it's OK for me to post this - it really helped me): http://www.ocdspecialists.com/real-event-ocd/ Hope it helps you too. Symps07
Hi Jen, I don't believe that I have experienced similar, but I think if you went to see a CBT therapist, they would help you to look into your anxiety, obsessions etc.. & hopefully find the source of your problems. Certainly be worth a try? The other thing I thought is, is the 'bad thing' really as bad as you think it is, or is this OCD's way of making you feel bad about yourself, as OCD has a way of making people think they are guilty when really it's the OCD making us feel guilty. GBG xx Very good article. The Gandhi - Jeffrey Dahmer sliding scale is great (and pretty amusing). Edited February 1, 2018 by paradoxer Link to comment
