orange Posted June 8, 2018 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Mostly I enjoy my own company and that of my family but occasionally it really gets to me as I'm alone too much. Due to my chronic fatigue and OCD I find it hard to socialize in groups. My friends are busy most of the time/have a job so hard to get to see them often. Tonight I tried to go to a group but had not had enough sleep so was very nervous. Leaving the house the floaters in my eye made me think I had seen a bat going past the door into the house. So I felt contaminated and decided not to shake anyone's hand or anything. I got lost, got there late and didn't know which door so gave up and went home. I didn't want to disturb the group. I went home and went in each room to check just in case it really was a bat even though it would have looked a lot more obvious. Fretted that there could be one anywhere. Does anyone else relate to having a hard time socializing? My nerves are not helping. I'm glad I finally actually tried to go the group but the nervousness (and lateness) didn't help. And not being social isn't great for one's health. Link to comment

cookiemonster Posted July 19, 2018 Share Posted July 19, 2018 Hi have you been to the group yet? i go to a support group which I find really useful. Friendly environment with supportive people. Once you go, even if you don’t speak (people do often do that the first couple of times) it will gradually get easier and you may then look forward to going. often they have social events to go to. BigDave Posted July 20, 2018 Share Posted July 20, 2018 I know how you feel. I sometimes feel crippled with OCD and my social anxiety. Which is worse, I feel I have very few people I can talk to by things with my OCD, even if it is just for reassurance, which I know isn't a good thing but sometimes you just need to talk through stuff with. I find socialising of any kind tough though. Link to comment

It's hard to socialize consistently because sometimes I feel 'contaminated' and don't want it to affect other people. Link to comment
