zx123
Hi, Recently my checking compulsions have become more pronounced and I am spending a lot of time checking things like plugs before I leave my flat. The fear is that there will be a fire or a flood and that I will be held responsible for this. At the moment this fear has become quite restrictive and is preventing me from leaving my flat for any extended period of time just in case anything happens. Are there any strategies I could use to deal with this? Is there anybody here who has managed to control there checking? Link to comment
PolarBear
The strategy for this is the same as for all other types of OCD. In a nutshell, stop your checking. Put your foot down and start behaving like everyone else. It will take a while, but your mind will slowly catch up and stop begging you to check. Link to comment
Angst
I had something similar. Do no checking when you plan to be away from your flat for a short time. Do no checking when you plan to be away for longer and longer time periods. So start the no checking regime when you go to a local shop, then a walk, next a visit to a friend.........a holiday away.
