How important is therapy opposed to self help

Recommended Posts

im asking because i could pay for therapy myself at the end of the month but its going to be tight, now ive had therapy before and to be honest it did not help much, with an expert. now i ask the question is it worth the money are they going to tell me anything different to the advice ive received here.

i know also im looking for reassurance when i go to this therapist.

I think with therapy you can get a better understanding of the cognitive side of things which is very important to run along side the behavioural side of things which can be considerably more difficult to apply when doing self help. The most important thing about finding a good therapist is to find someone who specialises in OCD and is a qualified CBT specialist.

Hope this helps :)

Some need the discipline, requirement to produce homework, and the ability to ask questions that personal therapy provides.

Others can manage quite well working their way through a book and applying what they learn.

But either way, the real work has to be done by the sufferer - and without commitment and dedication success will likely elude them.
