taurean
It is quite normal to be doing really well and get floored by a trigger - I know this only too well myself. How do we pick ourselves up from that? How do we stop this becoming a full-blown relapse? Actually, the answer is simple; but as usual with OCD, it's the applying it that is tricky. So what's the simple bit? Just treat the fact a trigger broke through to hurt you as "just one of those things". A blip, not serious, and NOT a sign of impending relapse. Don't believe the trigger and the message it conveys. Don't connect with it. This is tricky, because the OCD will be saying it's all true, you are about to relapse. Be strong, be resilient. Don't listen to it. Determine to simply gently, but firmly, ease the intrusion away and get back to what you were doing. If necessary, really throw yourself into that and keep doing that if the intrusion tries to persist. Once you, not the OCD, regain control this will become a whole lot easier to do the next time. Think of it as snakes and ladders. Look to slip just down the one snake only, and use this tool to grab hold of a ladder, get onto it, then climb back up the ladder to where you were before Link to comment

phillev
I totally agree with all of that, unfortunately until I get some treatment and my meds sorted putting it into practice seems miles away. Link to comment
