I'm not going to give you reassurance. If you are Googling for an answer to your question, please stop.

Your problem is that you are not handling your intrusive thoughts very well. You are taking them seriously, like they mean something. They don't.

And then you do compulsions, like avoiding children. This is the wrong thing to do.

Have you looked into CBT? Because that's what you need.

I understand the replies Charlie’s received here are being made with the best of intentions and with his interests at heart, but I’ve set those where people are putting  2 + 2 together and coming up with 5, and clouding the issue a little...that Charlie needs support/advice for, as invisible.

I agree with Polar tho,’ Charlie... I think you really need CBT. I know in the past you’ve had problems with your team accessing it, but could you ask your GP to support your request, or could the charity maybe help you with some advocacy?

CBT and treatment to overcome OCD is not just about staring at children, is that what you think CBT is?

Actually, CBT for this theme is looking at a picture of a child say in a bathing suit, every hour.  Then one learns to deal with the anxiety.

Ok it's just when I have to be out around them that scares me so much.so you start with a picture then what's after that.i would google for a picture like you said.but I dont want the police onto me.

Cheers

I quote Hal because I think therapy should be person to professional person. If you are in the same place -psychologically and physically  - as some  months ago then I think you should return to the debate in your previous thread. That is, if you have two diagnoses: a very deep depression as well as OCD. Under the CMHT. Offered help for your depression with PICuP at the Maudsley.

With regard to CBT for OCD you need to familiarise yourself with OCD band therapies -   look at past posts on your theme including your previous posts.

Hi Charlie Couldn’t get rid of the two quotes above. So  ignore.

The CBT for the deep depression is different from the CBT for OCD. Though there is overlap. Because what you experience with your depression seems to me springs from your OCD. Doing CBT is a challenge  either at PICuP or at CADAT at the Maudsley. Yes you should have done CBT 17 years ago. But was it  offered? Had you heard of it? The past is the past. It is gone.

Your first question on this thread was about pornography. Nobody knows the answer. Internet pornography has grown enormously over the past decade. The UK government is trying to stop  pornography access to the under 18s. The implementation of the law had been delayed twice it is  due in the autumn.

Basically it is the outpatient clinic with people for psychosis. It, like many other services, has been influenced by the the recent publications of the British Psychological Society, Clinical Division in respect of psychosis. That hearing, seeing, feeling things not observed by others occurs quite frequently. It agrees with the Hearing Voices Network on this principle. There are a number of PICuP clinics through  the UK. If you search Maudsley PICuP you will find the relevant service.

Psychosis has unnecessary connotations so my reticence in using that term. A survey of the Hearing Voices Network will reveal how common it is in OCD. Hearing Voices Network based on the research of Dutch psychiatrists.  Very common in bereavement.

Cbt wasn't offered 17 years ago I hadn't heard of it and it would of been easier back then for me.If only I could get this cbt in some kind of hospital.i haven't been feeling with it today like I'm losing my mind.

Hi Charlie,

The staring sounds like a sensorimotor obsession connected to OCD. Have you told anyone in the medical profession about it?

Hi felix4

I have told my care coordinator that I now pick up on private areas of others and can stare for a moment.I will tell them about the starring at children while out.

......Can I ask how confident you feel about your care coordinator’s knowledge of OCD? I really think you do need better support than you’ve received so far, but if you’re unsure about your coordinator’s experience with the disorder perhaps you could raise again how much of a problem staring at people’s private areas has become for you..and that you need to see a CBT therapist, but for the time being perhaps don’t mention the staring at children.

You and I both know the staring’s a compulsion and you’re doing it because you have OCD, but even within mental health services there can still sometimes be a lack of knowledge about the disorder when it comes to intrusive thoughts involving children.

I have a feeling I may have muddied the waters a bit by saying that, but it’s important you get to speak to the right professional about this, and then you can raise this specific compulsion.

Hi hal

Thats ok because I couldn't leave my flat at times kids were coming home from school the mental health have now put me with the treatment team with a different care coordinator.I do think I need better support I will tell them the starring is bad for me.Its legs, bums, grions and chests.I wont mention the starring at children then thanks.

I'm in my flat all the time think it's been 5 months I haven't been out.i got out twice last week just close to me on the bike and back. Its really difficult now because the kids are not at school. In the past I only go out when the kids are at school.
