How to help partner with OCD

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My partner of 4 years has been battling OCD for years, he’d spent the last couple of years on meds but has decide to come off of these in the last few months.

we are now trying to over come his compulsions one by one some of them we are succeeding at some not so much.

I know how much he struggles with it and i try my best to help but constantly feel like I’m failing him which is now having a negative affect on my mental and emotional health. And don’t feel like I can talk about my struggles because they’re not as bad as his.

This might not be the right place for this but I’m just after to some help and advice on how to help him and myself at the same time.

Thank you.

Hi Helpless :)

I'm sorry to hear that you're both struggling. Has your partner tried accessing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for their OCD?

I really recommend on top of looking into therapy the self-help book Break free from OCD. Both me and my partner read the book so we could understand OCD together. Without the tools to fight OCD it's incredibly hard to do so. So don't give up hope, CBT can really make a huge difference :)

Hi Gemma,

Thank you for your reply sorry I’m so late in responding.

He has tried CBT a couple of times and is waiting on another round to start.

Thank you for your recommendation I will look into that book. ?
