Psychologist/Psychiatrist help needed

Recommended Posts

I´ve been trying to locate a psychologist or psychiatrist in the UK who is an expert in working with OCD patients.  I´ve spoken to a couple of people but they have all been fairly general therapists.  Really struggling just now and need help from someone who is a real specialist in this field.  Given the current situation it´s going to need to be SKYPE or some other type of video session so location is not a problem.

Can anyone provide a recommendation?

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian,

I'm sorry things aren't too good at the moment..we're here to help at anytime if you'd like to chat things through on the forum, but the best way forward private therapy wise will be to find a therapist through the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.

Here's a link to their site..

...and so long as they're accredited you should receive the best quality CBT available to us. When I was looking for someone to help me a few years back, Ashley recommended these therapists as being at the top of their game:

Dr Lauren Callaghan (EastLondon) http://themindworks.co.uk/

Dr Elizabeth Forrester (Petts Wood)- http://www.dreforrester.co.uk/ (offers treatment via Skype).

Dr Stephanie Fitzgerald- http://www.fitzgeraldpsychology.com/ (offers telephone/Skype therapy).

With all that's going-on, they may have quite a waiting list...but definitely worth giving them a call.

Good luck:clover:

Hi Hal,

Thanks so much for the link and information.

I´ll have a look and see which one would be the best fit and what the timescales would be.  I´ve never struggled like this before.  The contamination problem with constant handwashing and laundry has taken over my life.  I´ve even got to the stage where I don´t want to eat which is not like me.

Thanks so much.  I really appreciate it.

Ian

No problem at all.?for you, I hope you get on okay with finding someone.

I struggle eating anything when I'm anxious too...but try to eat something even if it's just a piece of fruit or maybe some soup. I often overlooked it as not being that important, but keeping your blood sugar level through the day can help a little with the anxiety. It won't solve everything but it will help.

I also have contamination issues and been there with having the washing machine on the go almost all day. I remember still being up at 4am one night redoing another load of washing because I thought I'd recontaminated it while taking it out of the machine. The way forward's to try to very very gradually begin cutting down on the washing while sitting with the resultant anxiety using a hierarchy of exposure exercises. It took time, but it's made a huge difference to where I am now.

I'm slightly biased, but our community's second to none with loads of experience, insight and knowledge, so please feel free to chat more if you'd like to.
