Tips to support partner with OCD

Recommended Posts

How best can I support someone with OCD? What methods work? Should I comment on compulsions? Should I aid compulsions? Should I ignore them?

My partner does not want to take meds and is desperate to ‘starve the beast’ but lately he has been trying to conquer it and I think it’s becoming a little overwhelming.

Hi Hy1233 :)

A lot of people find learning more about OCD helps them so read a self-help book like Break Free from OCD https://www.ocduk.org/shop/break-free-from-ocd/ or a self-help book aimed at loved ones specifically like How Can I Help? by Lauren Callaghan https://www.ocduk.org/shop/how-can-i-help/  Lauren also did a presentation at our online conference last year that you can watch here https://www.ocduk.org/conference/conference-map/family/helping-family-member-with-ocd/ which might offer some tips.

Has your partner tried accessing any therapy on the NHS? It can be very hard to tackle OCD on your own.

Gemma :)
