Maxfloorplan
Both myself and my daughter are UK citizens but we live in Thailand. My daughter has been attending international school here in Thailand since she was 3 years old and does not speak Thai fluently. We are currently finding it very difficult finding a local doctor with OCD knowledge and the skills to conduct any therapy. Also it is extremely difficult to find a doctor which can both communicate fluently in English and be able to offer OCD therapy. We have been searching for 3 months and have almost given up. So I am now exploring possibilities for online therapy sessions for her. Apart from a few holidays back in the UK my daughter has never lived in the UK. Being a UK citizen I guess she would qualify for NHS treatment but due to us residing in Thailand I guess it will difficult to get her assessed and registered online. Because of this I would definitely consider jumping in with private therapy. So my questions: 1. Can anyone recommend a good therapist which will conduct online therapy sessions for my daughter (private treatment is OK) 2. Is NHS treatment possible with us living in Thailand? Thanks in advance for any advice. Max Link to comment
Ashley
Hello Max, I will try and address some of your questions, starting with this easy one first. 4 hours ago, Maxfloorplan said: 2. Is NHS treatment possible with us living in Thailand? I am afraid not. If you're moving abroad on a permanent basis you'll no longer automatically be entitled to medical treatment under normal NHS rules. 4 hours ago, Maxfloorplan said: . Can anyone recommend a good therapist which will conduct online therapy sessions for my daughter (private treatment is OK) It would need to be private. I can recommend some, but not all the OCD specialists work with children and some that do are not taking patients because of COVID meaning NHS commitments. I have reached out to a few therapists I know to ask who is and I will post back on here in a couple of days once they come back to me. Also, it's good to seek recommendations from independent charities like OCD-UK as the internet is sadly full of unqualified people promising the world but charging thousands for it (I guess that's my little word of caution).
