LAP
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced loss of bladder control and bladder pain due to olanzapine? I’ve been dealing with bladder problems since around when I started taking it, and am trying to figure out if the two are connected. Link to comment
daja
Is the bladder control issue when you sleep, when you are awake, or both? Link to comment
Summer9173
My brother is on Olanzapine and he complains of similar side effects. He also gets annoyed of the constant tiredness and weight gain. Link to comment
LAP
@daja thanks for replying, it’s mostly when i’m awake although it does disturb my sleep sometimes. Link to comment
LAP
@Summer9173 that’s interesting! Does it impact his every day life? For me, it stops me being able to go out for a whole day, as i would just wet myself! I’ve also noticed weight gain. Link to comment

It really does it’s so upsetting to see that even though i know it helps him so much, he’s on it due to a psychosis episode which helped massively. He can’t move most of the day because he’s so exhausted and tired, I’m not to sure about the wetting himself as his only 17 so I don’t think he’d go to his older sister in relation to that haha although he knows he can talk to me about everything! Maybe looking at another alternative antipsychotic? Even lowering the dose can help Link to comment

Hmm ok so it’s not because you are sedated so much that you can’t get up to pee. With some of the heavy duty antipsychotics you can get a metabolic disorder which can cause weight gain - there might be some help you can get with that from your doctor. Link to comment
Caramoole
On a simply practical level, have you investigated any of the incontinence products that are available so that it didn't stop you from going out? Link to comment
Angst
Hi Lap It might be worth mentioning it on the Yellow Card Scheme where takers of medication can report side effects. That way a body of evidence can be created and measures put into place. I think Daja is right, there can be metabolic effects. I would see a GP to at least monitor the situation.
