CaringParent
Hi there, I would like some help from a therapist to try and normalise our family routines - they are not great at the moment. Rather than a general therapist I would like someone who has good experience with helping family’s of OCD sufferers. Can anyone recommend anyone? Link to comment
Gemma@OCDUK
Hi CaringParent, I don't think I have heard of a therapist who could offer this type of support. Most of the time the focus would be on challenging the OCD, where sometimes families are included in the odd session, so they know how best to support the person struggling. Gemma Link to comment
Angst
Sounds like a good thing if available for OCD. There is family therapy. I think it is most commonly used in the case of schizophrenia. There are cases where it is used in hoarding -which used to fall under the rubric of OCD - where the hoarder and the family discusses perceptions and feelings. My instinct is that a competent clinical psychologist should be able to facilitate such a thing but his/her primary objective would be to help the client. Link to comment
