OCDUK123
Hi everyone, I just wanted to reach out for some guidance about how others control their intrusive thoughts? I've tried everything to better my wellbeing, but the thoughts can be so debilitating. I'm also in the process of reaching out for CBT and further support from a therapist. I'm just really struggling to cope at the moment, and would love to hear from those who are able to better manage their thoughts Thank you in advance Link to comment
Keyboard Worrier
Hi, You can't control the thoughts, you have to modify/control your reaction to the thoughts. Much easier said than done though! Link to comment
ErinEvans
Ive used mindfulness. It took me a long while and a lot of practice. It's about being able to step back from the thought and just watch it pass by. I often imagine my thoughts on a train that's passing me by. Without giving it power or managing your emotions as it does. Also managing your breathing. I still struggle as there isn't a fix. But it's about making it more manageable. If panic sets in, I turn to managing the physical reaction of fight or flight. Aiming go bring down my breathing rate, heart rate, shaking etc. Usually using breathing techniques. I hope this might be helpful. Link to comment
