Internet porn problem

Recommended Posts

My problem is this-

For many years I have used the internet to masturbate.

Over this time I have always looked at 'softcore' images of women, and everything has been ok.

Over the last couple of years, while I have continued to use the internet to masturbate, my ocd has started to make

me question, 'what if I accidentally see something illegal, while I am looking for images to masterbate to?

At the moment, I find I am increasingly plagued by this thought, but at the same time also finding it difficult to stop using the internet to masterbate,

as I have been doing for such a long time.

Any advice on how to deal with this would be gratefully recieved.

80% of the major porn sites videos were deleted recently for being illegal because of minors or trafficking.  So they don't police effectively in my opinion.

Don't do porn.  Simple.

if you see something illegal you can report it to the website, as well as in webs like:

https://inhope.org/EN

https://reportharmfulcontent.com/

(among others)

The problem is that OCD will latch onto 'what if it was illegal', rather than it was illegal and I must report it.  So such links, although well-meaning,  are unhelpful in this situation.

I am not really clear what advice you are looking for.  Ultimately it's the OCD that is causing the problem as you mention, so if you have had treatment for OCD try and treat it like any other obsession using the CBT techniques, the therapy principle remains the same to try and identify what the fear would mean to you and why it bothers you so much, and then look to challenge it by, well carrying on!  Not something I thought I would ever write in my OCD forum!

Morally, some people would suggest that is a fair comment/advice.  OCD wise it would be avoidance I guess :)

Handy - just providing some context as that could be read as 80% of all content was illegal which is not the case at all, in fact would be simply misleading.

Pornhub did indeed delete 80% but that was on the basis of anything unverified and they took that approach because payment processors like Visa / Mastercard shut them out (quite rightly) after New York Times reported on cases where child sex abuse victims saw footage of themselves on there.

Pornhub rightly or wrongly still maintain the actual number of instances child sexual abuse material were quite small relatively, citing Facebook and its much worse record:

“Leading non-profit organizations and advocacy groups acknowledge our efforts to date at combating illegal content have been effective. Over the last three years, Facebook self-reported 84 million instances of child sexual abuse material. During that same period, the independent, third-party Internet Watch Foundation reported 118 incidents on Pornhub. That is still 118 too many, which is why we are committed to taking every necessary action.”

So they did the policy below :

“As part of our policy to ban unverified uploaders, we have now also suspended all previously uploaded content that was not created by content partners or members of the Model Program. This means every piece of Pornhub content is from verified uploaders, a requirement that platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat and Twitter have yet to institute.”

Overall therefore they did run a shocking business and prob still do but at least payment processors applied them to change. If you accept the above then it is mainstream social media which now needs to do something.

Don't get me wrong - i am not saying Pornhub is or has done enough - if i had my way i would shut the whole lot down including social media found to not employ law enforcing controls. i think world would be better without any of them. End of. Mainstream media needs to do more also.

Thanks for the reply,

my ocd is about the consequences of seeing something illegal and everything that comes from that. Ei going to prison, being shunned by society.

I've tried to stop going to these sites to masturbate but I find it hard to stop.

I would like to get therapy for this,

With therapy, they won't necessarily just cover OCD things but also tackle any other issues if you bring them up if they can, especially if they may contribute to your OCD. They aren't going to judge you so don't be afraid to talk about it to them no matter how difficult it may be.

It really comes down to what you value at the end of the day and how they can help you get towards doing the things you value.

Hi zx,

Realised I hadn't provided any reply to your post. It is your OCD. It is giving you endless questions which are impossible to answer. Try to distract yourself, don't feed it.

Good luck.
