Hi everyone, I just want to share my experience of trying to get help from specialist clinics. Some of them are extremely difficult to contact (Welwyn). Some promise x on their website but after you've gone through all the hurdles of getting there they say they can't offer what the website said (Cadat). Some don't give accurate information about funding or waiting times (Adru). Some have had documentaries made about them but won't facilitate external patients' access to viewing them (Adru & Springfield). One charges insane fees to private patients (North London). The Scottish one prioritises Scottish patients over others - despite the fact that the English ones do not prioritise English & Welsh patients over Scots. Which is why I applied to Bath. What happened? The director resigned. All the staff left. The Trust had confirmed to me that I would be treated in less than 6 months but in fact it was over 2 years. In total I've waited over 6 years on NHS waiting lists to see clinical psychologists. Some of the former staff at Bath claimed to be "NHS fans" but patients like me have been put through Hell. So if you do decide to sign up to a specialist service, never trust everything they tell you. Services you expect to deliver on their promises can fold, staff can resign, and whether patients are suicidal or not makes no difference to how urgently the NHS will treat you.  So while it might sound great when a new NHS clinic opens, what would be even greater would be if other patients hadn't had to suffer when the staff left their jobs at another clinic.  The same thing (staff moving on / another clinic closing) could keep happening again and again. No-one should have to have suffered like I have had to, yet the complaints and ombudsman service gives zero justice.

Sorry you have experienced problems, and certainly I agree that the way AWP handled the Bath clinic was not good at all.   What's your situation now, have you been referred for treatment at a local or national clinic?  Is there anything I can do to help?
