A break from thinking about OCD

Recommended Posts

As the father of someone suffering with OCD I find myself thinking about it all the time and trying to understand how to help my adult son - who currently lives with us, is housebound, sleeps all day and whose compulsions affect our day to day lives.

Anyone got any tips on how to move to a more ‘normal’ state of affairs where I can think about it less and assert some of my needs in the house?

Now that's an interesting question!

Because that's also exactly what your son needs to do - get his mind off his compulsions and spend more time on normal things.

Why don't you try to think of some things you can do together? :)

Hi CaringParent,

We have a fantastic presentation aimed at parents of children under 18 years old (but could be still be relevant) that you might find helpful about parental self care https://www.ocduk.org/conference/conferences-across-the-uk/2021-virtual/family/parents-caring-for-themselves/ It features two parent's honest account of how they coped alongside OCD.

Gemma :)

That was a really helpful presentation - thank you
