  1. I tried CBT at CADAT (Maudsley) and couldn't force myself to do the "exposure - response prevention". I worry awful things will happen if I don't do the response, so i always obey my OCD.
  2. A better OCD effect, I still have a lot of OCD behaviours. I've never tried an SNRI for OCD, and wonder if it might be more helpful than just an SSRI.
  3. I've been on escitalopram / lexapro 40 for over two years. It's quite good for mood; no depression; and has slight effect on my OCD. I would be worse off if I were to not take it. I'm seeing my doctor in a week's time. There are the following options that I can see; (1) continue lexapro 40mg (2) try effexor / Desvenlafaxine or some other SNRI such as cymbalta (3) try fluvoxamine, haven't tried this one yet. OK. What should I do? Advice please.
  4. I just got started on the OCD Workbook by Hyman and Pedrick. Currently page 45. So far so good. It's the 3rd edition dated 2010. Is this the latest edition? Is this worth my time? Are there other / better self help books which I could read? tyvm
  5. Specifically, did venlafaxine work "wonders" for your OCD? I have no depression and little anxiety with lexapro, but my OCD is quite severe. I tried CBT and it didn't work, I wasn't able to stop doing the compulsions.
  6. Lexapro worked for me several years ago ... so I thought I was cured, and stopped taking it .... so the OCD returned now, a high dose 30mg of lexapro has little effect on the OCD how about Effexor / Venlafaxine ? this has a different effect to SSRIs, targeting a different neurotransmitter. Anyone with good experiences?
  7. Is Effexor / Venlafaxine a suitable treatment for OCD? "It can treat depression, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder" It's cool it can treat anxiety, but has anyone found it useful for OCD? "Venlafaxine is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSNRIs)." is its action on norepinephrine relevant to OCD? tyvm
  8. Is it possible to have some advice regarding this? I would like to try 40mg Lexapro, but am worried as to the cardiac aspect.
  9. I have a private psychiatrist, and a state (NHS) psychiatrist. The private guy says 40mg is OK. The NHS one seems very cautious. I haven't asked my GP. Yes, it is partly reassurance seeking. It's also partly information seeking. If someone took 40mg and died, I would like to know. Hope that's not exaggerating.
  10. You say, "I've seen online some clinical benefits reported up to 40mg so it may be worth a shot if you feel 30mg is not working" Can you tell me where I can find reports of 40mg being prescribed, and safe? Currently I'm on 30mg and I have ECGs once a month. Would 40mg for al least six months be safe, from a cardiac point of view?
  11. I've been on an increased dose of 30mg Lexapro for almost two months, If this dose doesn't work for my OCD, is there any purpose to increasing to 40mg? My psychiatrist thinks 40mg is not safe, I've had ECGs twice since starting the 30mg dose, and they're okay. If I have regular ECGs, would it be safe to take 40mg? Thanks for responses.
  12. I have a question. Our fridge/freezer is faulty and needs to be replaced. Is there a particular type of fridge which is OCD friendly? Our current fridge is white in colour. Is there a colour or other attribute, eg transparent fridge door, which is suitable for a person with OCD? Currently I check the fridge door along the 'seal' to ensure it is closed.
  13. I am trying to convince myself that my twitter email does not show to other users or the public. For about ten days I've been repeating; "twitter email - not visible to the public" Seven words, over and over, for ten days. I have memorised the words, but I cannot attach meanings to them. An OCD worker has suggested I ask about this on a forum such as this. OK, I'm asking. How do I convince myself that the email address I have in twitter in not visible to the public? I know the ERP approach is to tolerate uncertainty and "don't worry about it". I am worried about it. What do I do?
  14. I've been on escitalopram 30mg from 02/08/2016, because continuing serious OCD and 20mg wasn't working. So it's been a week, and my OCD seems to be getting worse, not better. Has this phenomenon happened to other people? It gets worse in the short term? Does it get better after a while?
  15. How long did you have to wait before the increase kicked in? How many weeks, months? I just started 30mg yesterday, so I'd like to know when it will be effective.
