paleandmorbid Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 (edited) Hi, I'm a student in my mid to late twenties currently studying my undergraduate at university. I've suffered from contamination OCD and loneliness for half my life, as a result of growing up through social care services during my adolescences. I was just wondering if perhaps there was any other young adults/university students who might like to connect over Xmas? Feel free to get in touch. paleandmorbid Edited December 18, 2020 by paleandmorbid
paleandmorbid Posted December 21, 2020 Author Posted December 21, 2020 Hey, Thanks so much for reaching out! I feel you. The Student Room is good but sometimes I feel overwhelmed by some of the posts! Makes me feel anxious and lost. This pandemic has made me realise we do all need someone in our life, if not a friend.
paleandmorbid Posted January 4, 2021 Author Posted January 4, 2021 Also just wanted to say for anyone reading this^ My brother who also has OCD recently found love overseas with someone online and that in case anyone was reading this alone in the pandemic to remember that Your Success is My Success and My Success is Your Success. We all know what living with OCD is like. Let’s Connect and be there for each other!
Cub Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 Hugs to you both. I'm older than you two but socialising at uni is very difficult. I was an awkward kid and didn't really fit in but luckily the people I lived with were understanding. As you go through your twenties you'll meet loads of different people. I lived in Cardiff for three years, moving there two years after I graduated for work and I had such trouble making friends and was very, very lonely - as well as very bored and isolated on a daily basis and so was sluggish and depressed. I finally found friends in my current job. It's okay if you don't quite fit somewhere. Just keep an eye out. You'll find your tribe.
paleandmorbid Posted May 18, 2021 Author Posted May 18, 2021 Hi, just wanted to give this a bump in case there was anyone else out there! Stay strong!
Binxy Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Hi folks, No longer a student (I wish I was!) but I started as an undergrad in 2000 (4 year undergrad, followed by 4 year PhD). I'm now a lecturer at a UK University. During my undergrad I had lots of ups and and downs with OCD. I don't know how I would have dealt with the COVID thing which must make life more complicated.... anyway, my reason for posting: you can get through this, you can learn to cope with the disorder and things can always get better even when you are convinced they won't. Hang in there folks, Binx
