OCD-UK Conference - 2019

Recommended Posts

I am working on the agenda over the next couple of weeks so please do continue to suggest which topics you would like to see discussed and if we can accommodate we will.

For those that want to come and the price is an issue, if it is at all helpful then we have enabled the ability for you to pay a small deposit today (10% of the total ticket price) then 6x monthly payments (15% of the total ticket price each month).

Presently lots of sufferers are staying stuck because they aren't actually doing what they are advised to do, and carry on doing the same same old same old thinking and behaviours, keeping them not only stuck but adding more layers, more power, to their OCD.

Also, sufferers don't seem willing to make notes - and so come back asking the same old questions, getting the same answers, but never making changes - and staying stuck.

Anything that might help here would be worthwhile - perhaps some brainstorming in a group session?

Many people are stuck in a wait for CBT - and desperate to make some progress meanwhile.

This for me is where self-help books can make a difference.

But they aren't much use unless the reader goes over things until they really understand, and teams the new-found knowledge up with making thinking and behavioural changes.

So many of us simply read the book, don't keep working at it until we "get" it, don't carry out homework and don't work on making those changes.

Result - the self-help didn't help, and the reader has a poor impression of CBT.

Maybe there could be a piece on getting the best out of self-help CBT for OCD?

Conference site visit completed today.  Venue nice and clean and tidy, easy to find the conference suite.   The conference venue is next to the local bus station, and also has about 150 car parking spaces (although hotel guests will have some of those), there's a multi-story car park 5 minutes walk away through the town centre.

Planning the agenda hopefully completed within the next two weeks.

Ok, so we have uploaded the conference agenda today to - https://www.ocduk.org/conference/#conference-agenda

We are delighted to publish our conference agenda for the day, and for the first time ever we are running a parallel mini-conference especially for parents of children with OCD (CAMHS age children).

The Northampton OCD Conference was carefully planned by members of the OCD-UK team, all of whom have lived experience of living with and seeking treatment for OCD, and in collaboration with health professionals to ensure that we created a conference programme that offers exactly what our audience needs and wants.

Caravaners.  We have someone coming over from mainland Europe for our Northampton OCD conference. They want to spend a few days here, can anyone recommend a nice caravan site (open in Nov) less than a hour's drive of Northampton?

So far we have about 100 bookings confirmed for the conference. I know we have lots of friends who can't get (because of geography) and who wish us well and will miss being there this year so I have been thinking about how we can involve non-attendees.

So I have had an idea to involve those who can’t actually be there on the day, so I was hoping you would be part of that?    What I am looking for is a  short message of hope and encouragement to be displayed to others there on the day (and later in November via the website).

It can be short text message or image based (I.e. a photo, image, painting or image showing person holding words on paper, or simply making a caring or supportive gesture).   Because of how I plan to display it cannot be audio based.

So that I can put this together I would need all contributions by 5pm Friday 8th November.

(Those planning on being there can also submit).

Hi Ashley,

Just a thought, is there anyway you could get this streamed live on Instagram or youtube? I know it may not be logistically posible, but if anyone attending would like to share (if it's allowed) I would love to watch, as I'm too far to attend. I would be happy to pay a fee to view, if it was organised by the charity.

Cheers

We did try that about 8 years ago, offered it freely but the number of live views was not many.

We did record last years, and slowly through this year they've been uploaded to the members area.  More to add through the winter. We may add this years too (in 2020).

Out and about in Northampton Town Centre today I realised just how close the conference hotel is to the bus centre, the Drapery Road with extra bus termini along it (buses and taxis only) the market place, the banks (in Drapery and Abington Street) , and the market square and Grosvenor shopping mall. And surrounding pubs restaurants and snack and coffee bars.

For those coming to conference and staying for the weekend, there is loads to do around the town - and local environment - on Sunday. Including 3 literally just out of town shopping centres. The one just two minutes south of the St Peter's way roundabout on the southern inner ring road has amongst others a B & Q and a massive "The Range".
