What if I have rabies?

My mouth keeps producing lots of saliva and that's a sign of rabies. I can't take my mind off of my mouth and I keep focusing all the time on how much saliva I keep producing. I'm aware of my mouth all the time and it's driving me mad. I can't focus of anything else.

As I told you, it is very unlikely that you have rabies. You have been told this by multiple sources. What you are seeking is reassurance but whenever anyone tells you, you want to seek more just in case. The question you are posing is a big IF. If a cat scratched you in England, would you assume you had rabies?  Nope. And Greece has been free from rabies for quite a while now. OCD is lying to you. It’s time to ignore this lie and move on.

Let me guess.. you Googled rabies and checked the symptoms. That would be a compulsion. You asking us if you gave rabies is seeking reassurance, another compulsion.

You have to start figuring this out on your own.

What you do is stop carrying out compulsions around this obsession. 

OK, so if you are in Europe it's night-time now. You need a strong distraction to shift your thinking - get stuck into a book or TV programme or a chat with the other houseguests. Or get up and chat with others online.

I got nipped by a squirrel too years ago and immediately thought 'rabies'. It's funny how the mind works. Just accept the feeling that you have excess saliva. It's just a feeling.
