Thank you everyone for sponsoring.  I did it, it was challenging but 95 mile course (a hill was closed due to accident shortening to 95 from 100) but getting to and from start/finish line I did about 110 miles cycling on the day.    I did it in a time of 7hr 40 which is slow, but I had to stop 7 times to get water/pee so that added at least 5 minutes per stop and a few bottlenecks and accidents meant we were held at times so I lost at least 20-30 minutes there.  My target is to get under 7 hours next year.  Will post about an OCD issue later.

  4. I think I have washed my shirt in sweat today.... it's hot!

A nod to that greatest of Britons Winston Churchill's famous speech perhaps?

"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat".

But don’t apply that too literally Ashley  - however busy, there should always be another day!

  5. Having ridden 60 miles on the bike yesterday. I have to say, sitting down is rather uncomfortable today.

Was hoping to make it this month Ashley, but sadly I wasn’t feeling well enough to come :(

      Hi Ashley

You have had a nice quiet summer then.!

The new website looks great, also looking forward to the next edition of the magazine.

A few days ago I renewed my membership - setting up a direct debit in the process. I also entered my new address as I moved house over the summer it will be different from the one I gave when I joined last year

are you able to confirm if the registration went through ok with my new address - sorry to ask as I am sure you have many things to do. I can provide my membership number etc if you need.

Sorry also if I have asked via the wrong medium here.

I seem to  remember you saying that your home landlord was going to provide the office accommodation?

All the best with the office move.

We have been tootling along ok on the forums while you have been so busy reconfiguring website, office arrangements, and keeping the charity running so well. And the moderator team have kept things nicely on track.

But I missed your input in the F1 thread on the member's-only sport forum :(

  20. Geez....   ive sweated so much in the last hour with that shoot out!!!

I don't think I would pick Ali or Dier - and Walker has twice made bad mistakes, he is playing out of position.

But the Colombians were a strong and physical team, and we eventually prevailed. My wife says Gareth Southgate deliberately had them practising penalties when they were tired at the end of training - clever.

Anyway, the doctor checked my blood pressure this morning and it was fine :)

Haha, I was tense but wasn't too bad, I just assumed they'd lose so it kept me relatively calm

Ever since the loss to Germany 4-1 8 years ago I have taken the Gemma route of not expecting success, so managing better if they don't do well.

But this year is a great opportunity, though our stats against Sweden are terrible - we will need to up our game, make chances and put them away.

For me no Dier, put on Loftus-cheek and Rashford or Welbeck.

Danny Rose to left back. And stop giving away needless possession, but also stop needless passing back.

  21. OCDBookCLub is back for June, so perhaps get involved, get reading, get better!

  22. Sorry about the forum downtime, I have new website work coming out my ears. I was up until 4am trying to sort it last night, gave up in the end. Sorted now.. I hope.

Will keep an eye open on the thread to see if I can add any useful comment :)

  24. No need for sad faces on thread titles... lets just assume everyone is sad by the fact they're on the forum!!!!! Otherwise every thread will have a sad face.

I think Ashley just means on the thread title Gemma, not in response to one

    3. Ashley

      Ashley

Yeah I meant on the thread titles.  I just don't want to look down the forum list and see a list of threads all with sad faces.

Does finding the sentence 'let's just assume we're all sad' hilarious make me a sociopath?

  25. We don't recover from OCD by talking about it online or at a monthly support group..... we get better by 'doing', so do something, do something today!

Breaking an OCD - induced routine (ritual)  is a great act.

It shows we can do it, however much OCD screams at us as a result - and it gives us such a sense of achievement.

I wanted to watch Tony Robinson's programme about Canterbury cathedral (which I have personally visited)  but knew he would go into grisly detail about the murder of Thomas a Becket, yet as a history buff I felt I wanted to know a little more about the detail behind that, plus I wanted to face out the violence (the theme of my harm OCD).

I recorded it, then watched the programme straight through, not avoiding that violent passage.

And a couple of days later, I watched the recording through again with my wife, who wanted to see it.

And, because I have kept my OCD homework up to date, the violent passage didn’t affect me - I was able to watch it without an OCD trigger as a result :)

Thank you Ashley, gbg and Roy for your kind words of support :)

Quite often it’s so easy to think oh I can’t do this now,  because?

It’s so easy to just sit back and use things as an excuse as to why we couldn’t and there will always be an excuse to why we couldn’t do it or can’t. We need to admit to ourselves first that we are hiding behind excuses for not doing things so we can start to  make progress
